Project Narrative
Staach joined the project team during site selection and worked closely with the landlord, business owners, contractors, and tenants to transform the existing historic structure into a multi-use building, focusing on developing Swillburger, a barcade and modern burger stand.
Staach’s concept was to foster play and provide flexibility in programming through furniture and lighting to fit a variety of configurations. Referencing cinematic cross-sections from the works of Wes Anderson, the open space makes visible a diversity of scales and types of gaming and interaction.
Programming and design development for this project was heavily influenced by the challenges of the existing historic structure; with the support of structural engineers, the technical and code challenges were addressed while maintaining a creative vision by integrating a structural response into a design solution.
