Mitigating Energy Use

  • Staach uses low embodied energy of wood. Research shows that wood is far better for the environment than materials that consume intensive amounts of energy (often from non-renewable fossil fuels) during manufacturing. Specifying North American wood products ensures the material was made under strict environmental and labor regulations and that the product did not require the same intensive energy production to make. According to the Wood Products Council, “Wood products have low embodied carbon compared to other building materials, which indicates fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and they continue to store carbon absorbed by the trees while they are growing. Low embodied carbon + stored carbon = lower carbon impact. Wood is also natural and renewable.”

  • Staach designs and manufactures furniture that can be recyclable at the end of life

  • The company uses sensors to turn on and off electric devices, light bulbs and uses NEST thermostats.

  • The company uses local purchasing to reduce its carbon footprint by transporting and delivering supplies and materials.

  • Staach minimizes waste sent to landfill by recycling and/or reusing manufacturing scraps, recycling office waste, composting kitchen waste, and using only recyclable shipping and packaging materials.
